Organization Setup
Step 2 of onboarding - Create your organization or join an existing one
Organization Setup
After verifying your email, you'll create your organization. An organization is your team's workspace in Securtea where you manage users, connect Microsoft 365 tenants, and run security assessments.
What is an Organization?
An organization in Securtea represents your company or team. It's the container for:
- Users - Team members who can access the platform
- Microsoft 365 Connections - Your connected M365 tenants
- Assessments - Security compliance evaluations
- Reports - Generated compliance documentation
- Settings - Customized configurations
Creating a New Organization
Organization Name
Choose a name that represents your company or team:
- Examples: "Acme Corporation", "Marketing Team", "IT Security"
- Character limit: 100 characters maximum
- Can be changed later from organization settings
Organization Slug
The slug is a URL-friendly identifier for your organization:
- Format: Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only
- Example:
acme-corp,marketing-team - Usage: Appears in URLs like
dashboard.securtea.io/acme-corp
The organization slug cannot be changed after creation. Choose carefully as it will be part of your permanent URL.
Reserved and Banned Slugs
Certain slugs are reserved and cannot be used:
- Common words:
admin,api,www,mail,support - System paths:
app, dashboard, settings, login - Offensive terms are automatically filtered
If your desired slug is unavailable, try adding your company name or a unique identifier.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Enter Organization Name
Type your organization's display name. This is what your team members will see.
2. Set the Slug
Enter a URL-friendly slug or accept the auto-generated suggestion based on your organization name.
3. Review and Create
Confirm your choices and click Create Organization.
4. Proceed to Billing
After creating your organization, you'll continue to billing setup.
Joining an Existing Organization
If your organization already uses Securtea, you can join it instead of creating a new one.
Via Invitation
The most common way to join is through an invitation:
- An organization admin sends you an invite
- You receive an email with a join link
- Click the link and complete signup
- You're automatically added to the organization
Via SSO
If your organization has SSO configured:
- Sign in using your corporate email
- You're redirected to your identity provider
- After authentication, you're auto-provisioned into the organization
- No manual invitation needed
With SSO, new users are automatically added to the organization based on their email domain. Contact your admin to enable SSO.
Organization Roles
When you create an organization, you're assigned the Owner role with full permissions:
| Role | Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Owner | Full control, including deleting the organization |
| Admin | Manage users, settings, and integrations |
| Member | Access dashboard and run assessments |
| Viewer | Read-only access to reports and dashboards |
You can invite team members and assign roles from organization settings after completing onboarding.
Multiple Organizations
You can belong to multiple organizations if needed:
- Consultants may have access to multiple client organizations
- MSPs manage multiple client tenants from separate organizations
- Enterprises may separate departments into different organizations
Switch between organizations using the organization selector in the dashboard header.
Troubleshooting
Slug Already Taken
If your desired slug is taken:
- Add numbers or identifiers (e.g.,
acme-corp-2024) - Use a more specific name (e.g.,
acme-security-team) - Contact support if you believe you own the name
Organization Creation Failed
If creation fails:
- Check your internet connection
- Ensure the name isn't empty or too long
- Verify the slug contains only valid characters
- Try refreshing and attempting again
Need to Change Organization Name
Organization names can be changed after creation:
- Complete onboarding first
- Go to Settings > Organization > General
- Update the name and save
